He wanted to build a wall. A wall that went around his house. But houses did not have walls around them. They never had. A wall was a barrier to self expression. It was against the law to indulge in any act that represented a threat to the right to free expression. He went to the Council and presented his case requesting special permission to build a wall.
The Council pondered. The Council deliberated. The Council discussed.
Would it be right to allow a wall to be built? Would such an act lead others to do the same? Would the whole city become a prison as people went about putting up walls and destroying their freedom? Where would that leave the free thought, free action and free expression?
No. They could not allow it. And they could not refuse him either, as that would be going against the right to free thought, action and expression.
So, they shot him instead.
