The Mask

The mask was sad. He was not meant to be a Sad Mask. And that made him sadder. He was supposed to be a Happy Mask.

The mask was sad. He was not meant to be a Sad Mask. And that made him sadder. He was supposed to be a Happy Mask.

He did not know what made him sad. His maker had made him to be a Happy Mask so that whoever wore him would look happy. He just couldn’t understand why he felt sad.

He was only a Mask. And that meant that he was simply not supposed to feel anything. He was surely not supposed to understand either. He could not understand these funny feelings that went through him every time he thought about himself. He was a mask after all.

So he decided that he wouldn’t understand or feel or think. And stopped doing those things. And he went back to being a Happy Mask. But he didn’t think, feel or understand anymore.

It didn’t really matter – he was only a mask after all.
